LONG BEFORE 02-24-22 THERE WAS 02-20-14 AND THE YEARS FROM A TO B WERE MORE THAN ADEQUATE TO BUILD GOOD ENOUGH DEFENSES THAT COULD HAVE KEPT RUSSIA OUT OF UKRAINE.
Even though I am sure you have heard this point being made at some time or another during your Ukraine war news watching or research I wanted to discuss it here anyway and for more than just one reason. Everybody understands that this was a mistake, that Ukraine should have been better prepared for another invasion but what many don't understand is just exactly how easy this task would have been to accomplish.
Firstly, let me state, that I am not going to give away what kind of defenses I would have built myself if I had control and that's for a reason but nonetheless I could still make the point that pushing around a bunch of dirt to 'recreate the landscape' in certain places in Ukraine is REALLY EASY and DOES NOT cost much. As a matter of fact in my opinion the people should be more than willing to do the work for FREE considering the damage the new invasion has caused, [ hindsight 2020 ].
Nextly, let me state that Ukraine was already being given aid from the USA which, in my opinion, was more then enough to build more serious defenses around the major entry points into Ukraine. If you want to find out for yourself just how much money UA was being given go this link Foreign Assistance .Gov.
Just select a year 2014-2023, then select Ukraine on the map, then you'll see stats come up on the right of the screen.
So I'll just publish some of the numbers here really quickly and you can check the data for yourself on the website;
2014 - $202.7M for Peace & Security,
2015 - $91.65M for Peace & Security,
2016 - $339.3M for Peace & Security,
2017 - $312M for Peace & Security,
2018 - $333.6M for Peace & Security,
2019 - $329.6M for Peace & Security,
2020 - $329.1M for Peace & Security,
2021 - $171.9M for Peace & Security.
Basically, Ukraine was given about $2 Billion US with which they could have easy built serious defenses outside of Crimea and North of Kyiv as well as other places. And I'm not gonna discuss where this money could have went as apparently UA did have a military to run all those years which cost money. Its just really the main point of ths article that people understand that UA SHOULD HAVE prepared for a major invasion and that this was a MUCH EASIER task then trying to accomplish it during an invasion.
Lastly, I needed to add that on top of it being easy to move some dirt around and change the landscape it is also easy to defend what you made with just a few weapons in the case of a real invasion happening, like it did. Basically, not to give away too much but it would have been really simple to defend just the few entry points that Russians used to enter into the Ukraine.
THE MAIN POINT OF THIS ARTICLE
It was easy to build serious defenses before the invasion started that would have defended UA well enough to be able to get more allied support for more fire power and ability to push back a fresh Russian invasion.
